Perfect Porridge

This recipe makes perfect porridge every time, and the jumbo oats give it a lovely texture.

Porridge is so versatile, and this basic recipe can be adapted any way you wish, using almost any fruits, nuts, seeds, chocolate, nut butter, jam, baked fruits, poached fruits or savoury toppings you can think of! Thanks to its versitility, I think it's hard to get bored of.



1 cup jumbo oats

2½ cups plant-based milk

Flavourings (optional)

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1 tsp maple syrup


  1. Place a saucepan over a medium heat and add the oats, milk and whichever flavourings, if any, you've decided to use. Warm through, stirring often, until the oats have softened, but aren't mushy – I like them to retain a little bite.
  2. Serve with the toppings of your choice, and perhaps some chocolate spread, nut butter or jam swirled through.
